So far I have three basic designs which you can see in the pictures.
1. Flip Top 2. Diamond 3. Slope Top
As it sounds the top flips up so you can access the nesting area. The diamond shape is a cube and the slope top decreases in height from the back to the front.
Blue Bird diet is mostly insects and berries. Feeds on a wide variety of insects, including crickets, grasshoppers, beetles, and many others; also spiders, earthworms, snails, rarely small lizards or tree frogs. Also eats many berries, especially in winter. Nesting As a courtship display, male may sing and flutter in front of the female with his wings and tail partly spread. While perched close together, pairs may preen each other's feathers; male may feed female.
Nest: Placed in cavity, typically in natural hollow in tree, in old woodpecker hole, or in birdhouse. Usually nests fairly low (2-20 feet above the ground), occasionally up to 50 feet. Nest in cavity (built mostly by female) is a loosely constructed cup of weeds, twigs, and dry grass, lined with finer grass.
In the past, declined seriously in many areas with loss of habitat and loss of nesting sites. During recent decades has been increasing again, undoubtedly helped by birdhouses in many areas such as these designs.
Blue Bird House size is about 6 x 6 x 9 inches or 6 inches square.
This a clip picture up close and the key to proper operation is the proper thickness of material in the clip for best retention. -- clif@ieee.org 228-284-4432

This blog is about embroidery and stainless steel clips for bolts of fabric. I added Blue Bird House that I make. Population has decreased because of a lack of habitat. These fabric bolt clips or bolt buddies should be used by anyone who deals with bolts of fabric. They have been around for a while but I do not see them in common use so I would like to promote them to fabric stores around the country. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed in the material handling process of fabric bolts. If you see a need for these fabric clips in your store and you are tired of sticking your fingers with pins and getting blood on the cloth please contact me. For letter embroidery please send an email with font and wording exactly as you want it for an iron on patch to CLIF@IEEE.ORG
